TEZA M GEORGE
AIR 11, IIT HSEE 2015

SRIRAM ACADEMY interacted with Teza George a brilliant student who came with a top rank in IIT HSEE 2015.

Here’s the interview:

1. You have achieved a top rank in IIT HSEE 2015.  How does it feel?
My mom called me up and told me that I'd got into IIT. I thought she was lying. Then when I'd confirmed for myself that she wasn't, I felt tearfully grateful to my father and Nakul Sir, both of whom had taken a lot of efforts during my course at Sriram Academy.  Then I kept saying 'Oh My God!' 'Oh My God!' for a very long time.

2. What / Who inspired you to consider ‘humanities” as a career option?

I am a Plus One Science dropout, meaning, I had spent one year of my life learning what I did NOT want as a career option. Still I wouldn't say that I was absolutely sure about what I did want as career option.

At that point I hated every person who said 'This is a crucial crossroad in a student's life', and they said that a lot. At that point, I only had 3 options - Science, Commerce and Humanities.     Science I had eliminated after trial and error; Commerce, I didn't like, so there I    was, left with Humanities. But the real love started after learning Economics, I must  say.

3. Describe the role played by Sriram Academy in your success.
Sriram Academy did EVERYTHING. Familiarized me with the pattern of the test, gave me daily tests, provided me the best teachers, gave me exactly the right amount of pressure - Sriram literally walked me through HSEE. Your institution did everything that a good teacher does.

4. Given that the syllabus is very vast, how did you go about tackling the various areas?

OK. The students don't know where to start. But the teachers do. That's what we have teachers for. Every class, the teachers teach in such a way that it becomes easy for the students to prioritize their portions. Thank you teachers.

5. Essay writing is the key to success in this exam.  How did you hone your essay writing skills?
Do you have any idea how much of time Geeta ma'am spends on honing our essay writing skills? The credit goes to her.  Personally, I think 2 things count in an essay. The first is speed. Quick to think, quick to arrange the matter in your head, quick to write. Geeta ma'am gives a specific structure for the essay. Stick to it religiously, because it saves you the trouble of molding your paragraphs, which usually takes up a lot of time. The second is honesty. Honest thoughts have clarity. We have little time. So we have to think with clarity. Stop forcing out long words and sentences. The right words will have just the right length and gravity.
